A couple posts ago, I directed you to Don Whitney's questions to ask at the start of a new year. I have been mulling over these questions and decided to adapt them just a little. Actually, I am merging Don's questions and a practice I learned from C.J. Mahaney together. C.J. Mahaney often talks about how he goes to Starbucks at the beginning of every week in order to plan out the week ahead. He schedules his week before his week schedules him. The thought occurred to me: "Why not have questions to ask at the start of a new week?" After all, isn't a year made up of individual weeks?
I cannot do anything significant this year aside from doing significant things during the weeks of this year (Of course, these thoughts could be even further narrowed down to days and minutes).
So, here are the questions I have chosen to ask myself as I plan my week:1. What is one thing you could do this week to increase your enjoyment of God?
2. What is the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this week?
3. What is the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your family life this week?
4. In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this week, and what will you do about it?
5. What is the single biggest time-waster in your life, and what will you do about it this week?
6. What is the most helpful new way you could strengthen your church this week?
7. For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this week?
8. What is the most important way you will, by God's grace, try to make this week different from last week?
9. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this week?
10. What single thing that you plan to do this week will matter most in ten years? In eternity?
11. Who do you most want to encourage this week?
12. What is the one thing you could do to be a blessing to your pastor this week?
13. What book, in addition to the Bible, are you reading this week?
You must read chapter 12 of Give Praise to God. Everyone who went to T4G has this book and all other church leaders must get it. But don't wait to read chapter 12 by Donald Whitney. Pick it up and turn to page 289 and sit for a while with this chapter. This chapter alone is worth the $19 you will pay for it.
