How can I serve today?

A challenge for you today:

Figure out one intentional way to serve your church today. Here are a few ideas to get you thinking.

1. Call a member of your church that was not at church on Sunday (for whatever reason). Tell them you missed seeing them and summarize your pastor's sermon for them.
2. Call or e-mail a family in your church with young children and offer to babysit for a few hours on Friday night. If Friday is not a good time, suggest another night you are free. You can't go wrong investing yourself in the marriages of your church.
3. Call an older member of your church and offer to bring lunch over to their house tomorrow.
4. Ask one of your pastors for a list of specific and intentinal prayer requests regarding the ministry of the church.
5. Consult your budget and figure out how you can give an extra $100 as an offering this month. Is there something you can give up for just one month to make such an offering?

If you have other ideas, leave them in the comments section. Also, if you actually did something like this, tell us what you did and how it went.

Asking someone how they are doing with a specific trial in their lives and just sit and listen. How often are we so consumed with ourselves and our own circumstances that we forget about the things others around us are going through?

The Lord really convicted me of that this week as I am directing our Kids Kamp (aka- vbs.) This is the first time I have ever done this on "my own" and it has been an all consuming task. The Lord just really convicted me while talking to our pastor's wife that I needed to stop looking for encouragement from her about what I am dealing with and serve her just by asking about a specific situation in her life, listening, giving her my undivided attention, and then taking time to earnestly pray for her.

Justin,

Thank you for posting this!

I do miss babysitting twins boys that were part of our church.

I do enjoy babysitting someone's dogs for the weekend and would do it again.

I know that I do miss some that I haven't seen awhile and will email them with love and encouragement too. Also encouarge other to be involve in small group too and Wednesday night as well.

By the way, I would love to have the list of all member's birthday and anniversary. Some are in my head but not all. I do think that all the member should have that list too, so that we can wish them Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary! This is one of my favorite hobbies.

Thanks for the post. I found it listed over at RayFowler.org. Thanks for the reminder that I don't need to wait until Sunday, or even tomorrow to serve. Today is just right.
