The Sobering Reality of Death

Where do I begin? Yesterday, as I was preparing for our mid-week Bible Study, I recived a phone call from a parent of one of my most regular students. She told me her daughter had been in a wreck with the soccer team on the way to a playoff game. All she told me was that her daughter was ok but that it was a pretty serious accident. Then the phone calls began. Evidently, the news picked up the story and cut into the regular programs. People began to call me to find out information, and all I knew was that the one student on that bus connected to our church was fine.
Then came the tragic news: two girls were killed in the accident and eight others were in serious condition. We prayed and waited to hear names. It was a long night.
First thing this morning, I went to the school not knowing what to expect. I ended up counseling and talking with students most of the day. Never have I seen a high school that quiet and sober. Never have I seen 2,000 serious teenagers at once. It was shocking.
I sat around tables and listened to students speak about the reality of death and the shortness of life. I watched them as they knelt and cried by the deceased girls' lockers. Some of them I just hugged.

The latest update is that 1 girl still remains in critical condition. They will amputate her arm this afternoon. The others are stable but shocked.
Please pray for students to embrace Christ today.

Amen. We recently lost a high school student in our community to an auto accident.
