Brothers and sisters, I officially have too many books going at one time. Usually, I'm pretty good about getting through a book before I start reading another. Not right now. This problem came to my attention last night when I realized my little round end table beside my reading chair was stacked with books. Not just a few books. 10 books (all with a book mark somewhere in the middle).
Besides my Bible, I've got Whitefield's biography (vol. 1), Dever's The Gospel and Personal Evangelism, Spurgeon's Lectures to My Students, Newton's Elders in Congregational Life, Piper's God is the Gospel, 2 commentaries on Ruth (Sinclair Ferguson and Atkinson), and the 2 new books by Jerry Bridges (Respectable Sins and The GREAT Exchange).
This doesn't even include the books on my office desk and the Galatians commentaries that all have book marks somewhere in the middle.

So many great books, so little time! I used to have the same dilemma, but realized that I wasn't getting as much out of the books as I could have. I can't seem to focus that much on the book I read when I'm going through many others, but I know many people can - I'm just not one of them. Since then, I have held fast to only going through one book at a time. It is a challenge though, because I want to read so many... but God has given me patience.
I feel your pain! Here is my list:
Glocalization by Bob Roberts
The Missional Leader by Roxburgh and Romanuk
The Externally Focused Church by Rick Rusaw & Eric Swanson
Quiet Strength - The Principles, Practices & Priorties of a Winning Life by Tony Dungy
David Brainerd His life and Diary by Jonathan Edwards -
And I just had Respectable Sins given to my as a gift from a church member.
I sure hope - "book gluttony" isn't on Jerry Bridges list!!
In His Grace,
Clif
