T4G 2012 Day 3
It was a fantastic day. I enjoyed having my birthday at T4G. I got to spend time with some good friends and sit under the ministry of some of my favorite preachers. Piper's concluding message on Jude 24-25 was greatly encouraging and faith-building. I am going home with a full soul ready to never underestimate the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

T4G 2012 Day 2
Day 2 has come and gone. And what a day it was. Today was a day of great fellowship for me. I was privileged to get to spend time with some great friends. I was particularly encouraged by my time with a friend from college. Here are some of the other highlights:
1. The bookstore here is amazing. Lots of good books at fantastic prices.
2. David Platt is John Piper Jr. I couldn't help but wonder what Piper was feeling/thinking in the front row tonight as he heard Platt championing all the things about missions that he has been championing for decades. I am grateful for Platt's earnest, serious, passionate call to lay down our lives for the sake of the nations. Go to T4G.org to listen to Platt's fantastic message. I love this brother and the platform God has given him.
3. Thabiti challenged me to not underestimate the power of the gospel (the theme of the conference).
4. Kevin DeYoung brought some much needed balance in calling us to work hard at holiness by the grace of God.
5. The Martin Lloyd-Jones Trust make a very important announcement that they are making all of Lloyd-Jones' audio sermons free to download through their website. Praise the Lord!
6. I got to meet the author of my kids' favorite story Bible.
7. I got to share the story of what God has done in and through Christ Baptist Church several times. I never tire of telling what God has done.

T4G Day 1
Got to the arena today with 6 minutes to spare (thanks to Josh!). It was a fantastic first day. Great to catch up with some friends. Great to hear Mahaney, Mohler, and Dever. Great to sing praises with 7,000 other voices. And great to get 19 free books (can I get an "amen"). A few highlights:
1. Al Mohler knocked it out of the park. He preached from Romans 10 about the power of the articulated gospel. He argued that we must use words to communicate the gospel.
2. Classic Mahaney and Dever. I never get tired of hearing these brothers preach.
3. Zero Dollar Bookstore! Nuff said. I'll try to provide a list when I get more time.
4. Refreshed by the gospel.

Together for the Gospel Conference
I have the great privilege of attending my 4th Together for the Gospel conference this week. I love getting to sit under fantastic preaching, seeing a lot of old friends, discussing ministry, and getting free books. You can see some of my previous T4G posts with lists of some of the past books they've give away in the past here.
I'll try to post some updates with highlights and nuggets of truth I'm learning. Pray for me. That the gospel would take deeper root in my heart, that I would grow in my love for the people of Christ Baptist Church, and that I would be sharpened in my ability to preach God's Word.

T4G Day 3 Recap
Lig Duncan helped us understand how to rightly read the Church Fathers (those who wrote during the first 3 centuries after Christ).
Matt Chandler was given some time to model suffering well for the glory of God. I so appreciate how Matt is allowing us to see his faith. We prayed for God to heal Matt.
CJ Mahaney took a few minutes after Matt spoke to challenge us to prepare our churches to suffer well. He challenged us to believe the gospel in the midst of suffering.
CJ Mahaney ended the conference with a very soul-edifying challenge to be faithful to the task. God gave me fresh passion to press on through his message. And, it was classic CJ: funny and helpful.
You can listen to or watch all of the messages from T4G here.

T4G Day 2 part 2 Recap
Shai Linne brought the hip-hop theology. Excellent.
John Piper brought justification by faith alone in Jesus' teaching. He said that we need to repent of our repentance.

T4G Day 2 part 1 Recap
Sang a great Newton song that I had never heard this morning about suffering.
Thabiti ripped it up. "Redeeming the culture" leads to adjusting the gospel. Pastors are not called to engage the culture. I'm looking forward to a response from Keller and others.
MacArthur preached from Mark 4 about the fact that we don't produce results. God saves people, not us. Therefore, we sow and sleep. God causes the growth.
Love hanging out with Jonathan and Rob. These are great brother pastors.
Went to David Platt's breakout session. Paul said, "keep your eyes on those who walk according to the gospel." This is a brother I've got my eye on. He has a wonderful command of the Scripture. Affected deeply by the gospel and the implications of the gospel to missions. Powerful talk.
Piper tonight.

Al Mohler warned us against 8 trajectories toward an adjusted gospel.

The T4G Effect
One of the best aspects of the Together for the Gospel conference is all the free books they give away. Each session greets the attendees with a stack of books on their chair. So, in anticipation of T4G coming up in about a month, I'm not buying any books. 2 years ago, I already had most of the books they gave away, so I've been excercising self-control for the past few months.
For example, Piper has several new books out (like A Sweet and Bitter Providence). But, I don't have them yet. It is rare for me not to be first in line for a new Piper book.
I also really want this new book on church discipline: The Church and the Suprising Offense of God's Love. But, I don't have it yet.
Any of my readers going to T4G in April?

T4G 2010
The following person has been successfully registered for Together for the Gospel 2010:
Justin Childers
You can register here: T4G.org
Also, after I registered, they sent me a $20 off coupon for a friend. I could auction it off to the highest bidder or I could use it to defer the cost of others from my church going. What would Mark Dever do?

"Lord, Why Was I a Guest?"
A month ago, I posted the words to an old hymn by Isaac Watts called How Sweet and Awful is the Place. I was looking for a good recording of it, but never found one. T4G has just released a slideshow of the '08 conference set to Bob Kauflin leading this song. Watch the slideshow, but also pay attention to the words of this great hymn.
